“The best runs are those that you can fall off.”

City: Colorado Springs State: CO

Favorite Shoe: Vasque Velocity Size: 10

Age: 51.3 years old

Marital Status: Single

Family members:
Mom, Dad, big-brother Edward, and big-sister Susan, many surrogate dogs

What I do for work:
NetJets Aviation--pilot stuff. Air Force Reserve--more pilot stuff.

Places I’ve called home and why I like where I am now:
New Jersey, Boston, Tucson, and Colorado Springs. I like the Springs because, unlike Tucson, you can run after 8 in the a.m. and not be crushed by the heat.

When I started running and what got me started:
Very long ago--age 14. No motor skills. That left running.

What does running mean to me:
It is the time that I am completely myself.

Running accomplishments: View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
Not falling down too often. Pikes Peak Marathon. Grand Canyon rim to rim. Crown King 50K.

What I like about trail/mountain running:
Lack of pavement and cars. Dig the sounds, smells, sunlight, shadows.

Favorite running trail and why:
The Bear Canyon loop in Tucson, AZ. The loop takes you into a place that is reserved for a privileged few. Or maybe Wasson Peak via the west approach.

Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
The Crown King 50K. Middle of nowhere, and a saloon full of drunken runners at the end. Good times.

Best running experience:
Wasson Peak with any of the guys.

Worst running experience:
Tripping on a rock. Doing the Super Man dive, then using my cat-like reflexes to land on my hip instead of my face. Didn't walk too well for the next week. Lots of pain. Next time I'll give serious consideration to landing on my face.

Neatest thing found on a run:
Havelinas, Gila monsters, coatis, desert tortoise. Rattlesnakes stopped being neat awhile back.

Running related bathroom stop story:
In Tucson, you don't really have the luxury of leaves. You have cactus needles or rocks. Take your pick.

Running pet peeves:
Stop watches.

Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I sing in my car, very loudly.

Other hobbies and interests:
Beer (IPA), black coffee, snowboarding.
