What I do for work:
I'm a general surgeon at AVRMC in La Junta.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Wichita KS,Ottawa KS, and since March of this year Rocky Ford.
When I started running and what got me started:
I started to keep in shape for swimming in high school. I restarted after a long absence in 2000.
What does running mean to me:
It is not only a great way to stay in shape but something my wife and I can enjoy together.
Running accomplishments:
Approx. 26 marathons in 12 states
What I like about trail/mountain running:
The Challenge of ever changing terrain and scenery. I also like the slower pace compared to road races.
Favorite running trail and why:
Mt. Verstovia Trail Sitka Alaska. beautiful landscape, a challenging trail, and bears.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Golden Gate Headlands half marathon. A great mix of mountains and beaches with spectacular views of the Pacific and San Francisco.
Best running experience:
Heartland 50 in Cassoday KS-my first true ultra.
Worst running experience:
The Louis and Clark Marathon in St. Charles MO 2008. The race was cancelled midway through due to the effects of hurricane Ike.
Neatest thing found on a run:
Alligators along the St. Johns River in Florida.
Running related bathroom stop story:
I lost a good pair of gloves in the woods. Now I always take an Immodium for long runs.
Running pet peeves:
People that complain about everything during group runs or the "one uppers" that can top any story.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
not really
Other hobbies and interests:
learning how to take care of the llamas that came with our new house.
Other stuff:
My wife and I signed up for the Barr Trail Mountain Run and need to focus on our transition to mountain running.
