Steve Camacho

City: Colorado Springs State: CO

What I do for work:
Professional geek (aka engineer)

Places I’ve called home and why I like where I am now:
Mostly the Southeast (Charleston, SC; Clemson, SC; Raleigh, NC; Durham, NC)...Boise, ID...Osaka, Japan...and now Colorado Springs!

When I started running and what got me started:
Fell in love with running in high school while doing pre-season training for wrestling. Kept up running through college and then took quite a few years off. Started running again when I realized how much I missed it.

What does running mean to me:
Friends, fun, and mental therapy. Plus the fact that you can eat whatever you want if you run enough miles!

Running accomplishments:
Lots of scars, friends, and stories.

What I like about trail/mountain running:
Nature and the solitude of being "out of the city"

Favorite running trail and why:
Lake Crabtree loop, because generally nobody is it out there besides deer and snakes. Haven't decided on a favorite trail in Colorado yet.

Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Race To Robie Creek half marathon in Boise, ID because there is a keg party at the end! :)

Best running experience:
Big Sur Marathon 2013. Several issues kept me from training properly, so it was a "fun" run. Stop, take pictures, stop, take pictures, stop, talk to the piano player....absolutely no pressure or goals and wonderful scenery.

Worst running experience:
Famous Potato Marathon - DO NOT douse your legs in ~40 degree water after mile 20!

Neatest thing found on a run:
A ghost. I never ran that route again after that night even though it was one of my favorite routes!

Running pet peeves:
People who don't smile or wave back.

Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I used to be a lifeguard and had a full head of blondish hair.
