Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
I grew up in the suburbs of Atlanta, GA but have lived in CO almost 1/2 of my life. I love everything about CO - the weather, the people, the trails, our distinction as the fittest state in the nation!
When I started running and what got me started:
I only started running about 3 years ago with some 5Ks.. then a 10K, a 1/2 marathon, a marathon, trails - I just kept going.
What does running mean to me:
running has become my hobby, my outlet... I feel powerful when I run.
many races...my biggest challenge was the recent BTMR - I was so happy to finish.. yes by most standards, my time was slow at just over 3 hours - but to me, I won! i finished!!!
What I like about trail/mountain running:
Trail/mountain running has been very challenging for me. This venue is outside of my comfort zone and not necessarily an area where I excel - and that is what I love about it - the extra push, the incredible challenge.
Favorite running trail and why:
My favorite is the incline/barr trail because of the aforementioned challenge and the friendly runners on the trail
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
I am relatively new to these races but I did like the Summer Roundup 12K because it felt like a good distance for me to perform my best and give my all out effort.
Best running experience:
It is hard to define just one experience - I have had good days and bad days. The recent BTMR was a good one for me because I was nervous about finishing in the 3:30 cutoff - but I finished with a half hour to spare and the experience was amazing - running up with so many stellar runners. The friendly and festive atmosphere at the aid stations and the faster runners yelling good job to me as they were coming down and I was heading up - I loved the day.
Worst running experience:
again - I don't have just one worst but a recent trip up to Barr Camp ranks up there. I felt so tired, heavy legs and just discouraged. It was a trip up after returning from 2 weeks at sea level and I really began to appreciate the fact of living at altitude and training here.
Neatest thing found on a run:
I haven't really found anything but it cracks me up when hikers marvel at the discarded long sleeves/jackets that are on trails sometimes. I have to stop and remind folks that runners often drop things and plan to pick them up on the way back. I have lost a nice fleece that I dropped on a run.
Running related bathroom stop story:
My one and only marathon (the Colorado marathon in Ft. Collins) was plagued by multiple bathroom breaks. It started around mile 7 and after 4 stops in 4 more miles, I was so discouraged. I also learned that day that a fiber filled dinner is a bad idea pre-race.
Running pet peeves:
I don't have a lot of pet peeves - I guess I wish we could all share the road sometimes - seems like bikers/cars sometimes resent our presence on the roads... a reason why trail running has been a refreshing change.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
not much - I am a simple person. I have three kids - one is a sophomore in high school and sometimes folks are surprised to learn that.
Other hobbies and interests:
I love to read, watch trash TV, book clubs and friendship.
I am a vegan runner - I love exploring new recipes and feeding my family healthy meals.
