Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
I've lived the majority of my life on the California coasts (San Diego and Santa Cruz), but it was my time in the Sierras that really made me realize how much I love the mountains. So, I moved here.
When I started running and what got me started:
I've run my whole life thanks to my dad who started me at the Carlsbad 5000 when I was 8 months old. He and my sister are avid runners; my dad currently is a member of marathon maniacs and has run almost 300 marathons since 1980, and my sister competed in the 2013 Maccabiah games for the half marathon.
What does running mean to me:
To me, running means solidarity wih others who, for any variety of reasons, choose to run. Running means being present, when I need to contemplate a problem or to mentally celebrate recent events. And running means individuality, because when I run, it is my sport and my challenge.
Also, preening, obviously. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xt90UXf5MBs
-Carlsbad 5000 (San Diego, CA)... 25 years this coming March 2015
-Several half-marathons including Rock n' Roll Arizona and the San Diego Half
Best running experience:
Racing mountain bikers in Santa Cruz... I always pulled ahead on the uphills, but like Newton said: mountain bikes will always win the downhill race. But it did get me in to going for runs with my friends on bikes
Worst running experience:
Getting lost. Unfortunately I've done this more than once, so there's no specific worst one.
Running related bathroom stop story:
During a cross country race in high school, I found I had to pee in the last half mile. Rather than risking my time, I tried to hold it til the end. And I almost succeeded.
Running pet peeves:
Mid-run hunger 'bouts and short-bunching
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I have a pet rat named Percy... I like to think of him as my really tiny dog.
Other hobbies and interests:
If you need a good read, go read The Brothers Karamazov.
Game of Thrones is a close second.
Unless you need a good show. Then go watch GoT.
