What I do for work:

Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Fargo, North Dakota
Velarde, New Mexico - you're never more than a couple miles from a great trail run
When I started running and what got me started:
Started trail running in '98 to fight depression after one of our daughters died.
What does running mean to me:
Running has become a religion to me, and a means for creativity and release.

I love every race I run, and never get hurt.
Often finish in top 3 of my age group, but place doesn't really matter, just the joy of the run.
What I like about trail/mountain running:
No special equipment needed.
Never a bad run, no matter how bad I feel at the beginning, I always feel better at the end.
Never boring, something is always different and captivating.
Meet equally deranged folks on the trail.
Favorite running trail and why:
Trails through Bandelier National Monument in Los Alamos, NM. Miles of trails that run through 3000' of elevation changes with abundant wildlife and magnificent views.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Leadville Marathon - very challenging, great support, cool mugs and awards!
Best running experience:
Running in the snow one foggy, blizzardy afternoon and finally realizing I was in the middle of a herd of elk.
Worst running experience:
Taking too many salt tablets and getting sick at Bataan Death March Marathon. Learned to listen to my body and not think that what is right for one is right for everyone.
Neatest thing found on a run:
I actually collect an unusual looking rock each time I go on a long run and put it in a plant in my greenhouse. Found a pile of really colorful rocks in front of a rat's hole once while running in the desert. Imagine it was a pack rat doing the same thing I was!
Running related bathroom stop story:
Don't squat near cactus!
Running pet peeves:
People using BLM land for garbage dumps. and if dog owners have to clean up dog do-do, why don't horse owners?
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I'm a beekeeper, using the little creatures to pollinate my apple orchard.
Other hobbies and interests:
Gardening, snowshoeing, bird watching, reading historical fiction, sewing.
