If you're not moshing, it's NOT music.
City: Colorado Springs State: CO
Favorite Shoe: Chuck Taylors (Green)??? Size: 11-ish
Age: 50.7 years old
Marital Status: Married
Family members:
Wife, two boys and a hamster.
What I do for work:
Logistics for AF contractor...and whatever my wife tells me to do.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Oregon pre-1986(ugh) Colorado 1986-88 (yea!) Virginia 1988-92, (double ugh) Colorado 1992-present( yea, again!)
When I started running and what got me started:
Always ran (to stay in shape for whatever activity I was into). But not formally (care about times, races, etc.) till Aug 2012. John Mills is to blame for pushing me down this path!!!
What does running mean to me:
Compliments my Colorado peak-bagging endeavors. Satisfies that strange internal calling to push myself. Plus it's a great mental-reboot for the day.
Running accomplishments:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
I'm a great mid-packer??? tacking on running mileage & experience year over year without totally killing myself
What I like about trail/mountain running:
The mental processing that my mind goes through navigating a trail versus road running. IE- It hurts less & goes faster if you are not bored (like on pavement).
Favorite running trail and why:
Gully behind my house. Great torqueing of the lower extremities, scenery, close proximity - I can run with or without the kids & not irk my wife (IE driving to somewhere 30-60 minutes away just to get out of a vehicle and run).
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Hardscrabble 45K. Ran along horses & big horn sheep in the Wet Mountains. Can't get any better than that.
Best running experience:
Watching my kids fare better in a race than myself.
Worst running experience:
Getting attacked by a dog...twice... on the same 'long' training run. Grrrrr.
Neatest thing found on a run:
Wouldn't call it neat. More like odd. An unconscious female. Long story short- she lived.
Running related bathroom stop story:
Well if it's supposed to be 'G rated' than I got nothin'.
Running pet peeves:
sunscreen...or sunburns if I don't use sunscreen. Swallowing bugs by accident. Sweating. Being slow.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
Although I used to be in the Navy I suck at knot tying.
Other hobbies and interests:
Peak-bagging(28 as of 2014), snowboarding, MTB, sports memorabilia collecting (Football)& SKA-CORE music round off the major $$$-sucking endeavors.
Enjoy watching my wife & kids humble me by doing things way better than me ( wife-piano, youngest son- BMX,running & spelling, oldest son- scooter, skateboard, trumpet).
Other stuff:
"If you are not crashing, you are not learning" Johnny O'Mara (80's motocross star)
"Which is better,a race you know you will finish,or feat filled with stories?" - Gary "Laz" Cantrell Barkely 100 Marathon creator
"Bloody hell... I'm gonna die to Boney M." Joe Simpson- mountaineer
