John Garner is the love of my life, pacer, and sous chef. Abby and Josh (the teenagers) follow us around on the trails, but only because we make them. Hayduke (the dog) is working on leash manners and hopes to get to spend more time on the trails, too!
What I do for work:
I'm a writer who teaches high school English at a local alternative school.
When I started running and what got me started:
I began running around 2008 as a way to get more time in the mountains. I kept at it because it helps clear my head. The mental and physical rewards keep me coming back.

2018: Garden of the Gods 10 mile and Pikes Peak Ascent (Yeah, the one that ended at Barr Camp.) Fall Series, where I took 3rd in my AG for the series! My first running award ever. Woot! I also had a perfect Sunday streak with the Incline Club.
2017: Winter Series (Long Course); Garden of the Gods 10 Mile (Set a new 12 minute PR!); Summer Round-Up Trail Race 12k; Fall Series
2016: Garden of the Gods 10 Mile; Summer Round-Up Trail Race 12k; ADT 1/2 Marathon
Best running experience:
Running with John through wild Peruvian streets with dogs and abuelas and gangs of teenaged boys on mountain bikes dropping down the steep cobble-stone streets. Running along the coast in Reykjavík with John. Running with John through the Garden of the Gods during a blizzard to join our family and friends atop High Drive to say some words and get married. Running with John through the Garden of the Gods in a crazy blizzard with huge, fat snowflakes sticking to our fronts and having all the tourists in their cars stop and offer us rides, only to explain to them that the beauty of the snow is what brought us out for a run. Summiting Pikes via Barr Trail for the first time with mammatus hail clouds looming above, you guessed it, with John. Basically, running with John.
Neatest thing found on a run:
Reasons for living.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I play blues guitar for my pepper plants, and I swear that it makes them spicier.
Other hobbies and interests:
