“Good runs make better days!”

City: Colorado Springs State: CO

Favorite Shoe: Hoka Size: 10

Age: 54.7 years old

Marital Status: married

Family members:
husband Henry, daughter Adrienne 21, son Gian-Luc 12 years old when he went to the other side - with me in spirit all the time, son Domyniko 13, daughter Francesca 10, dog Lucia around 6 years old and Gian-Luc's pet gecko Luna, she is very old....

What I do for work:
I am a SPED para in D20, working part time at our elementary school.

Places I’ve called home and why I like where I am now:
My first and always home is Germany, born and lived there until 1992...lived in Colorado Springs ever since then. Like the town and the far so good....

When I started running and what got me started:
I used to run only a little bit and participated in one short 5K once a year since 2006. When our son died I needed to do something when I had sleepless nights and got up getting out of the house very early in the morning - darkness is my favorite surrounding to run... I would talk to him and started running longer distances, just to run, partially also wanted him to be proud of me... still want him to be proud of me every race I do. Friends encouraged me to run different races and I had to qualify for the ultimate challenge in 2012 - the Ascent. That race being on the first year anniversary date of my son's death what better thing to do in order to be closest to him than climb Pikes all the qualifying races inspired me to train and do my best...our cause and website is also a reason for me to run.. the shirt I wear gives info to people and I always hope they will actually visit the website and educate themselves and others about the horrible accidental cause of death my son experienced...

What does running mean to me:
As I said, it is on one hand a way to be close with my son, and on the other hand a great challenge to see how much better I can be. My son was and incredible athlete and being fit and healthy meant a lot to him... I want him to be proud of me.

What I like about trail/mountain running:
As I get older, my hips and knees really hate my neighborhood sidewalk... I am aching and aching until I get on the trail. I love the softer ground under my feet and peace and quiet of the trails and that my dog can run off leash with me,she is happy and free...nothing hurts when I am done with a trail run... it is just so refreshing!!

Favorite running trail and why:
currently loving Longs Ranch Road, just been there two times but the rolling hills are such great interval training... beautiful surroundings too... I am also liking Cheyenne Mntn State park...but maybe I am just a little burned out from Barr these days. Santa Fe on the AFA is also real nice, in the Summer I like any trail that gives me shade shade shade !!!

Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Still have to go through the Winter series to form and opinion about that...will update this one later...

Best running experience:
Definitely the GOG 10 mile last year...I trained a lot and the hills became easier and easier. On race day I was pumped and full of energy.. went way faster than I would have ever thought, it was fun to finish strong !!

Worst running experience:
On November 7. 2012 our beautiful dog and my faithful running partner Mia was hit by a car on my morning run...enough said....

Neatest thing found on a run:
glimpses of content....

Running related bathroom stop story:
non so far

Running pet peeves:
can not stand the crazies that race down Barr trail coming from the incline... out of control speed and no concern for others...

Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
nothing comes to mind

Other hobbies and interests:
I love to play soccer, I am not good but enojoy it.
Love to watch my oldest daughter's college soccer games up at UNC, love to watch my little ones in their swim meets, soccer games and basketball games, Triathlons and track competitions...
