Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most
City: Colorado Springs State: CO
Favorite Shoe: running shoes of course Size: 11.5
Age: 45.5 years old
Marital Status: single
Family members:
Dad, Mom, & three older sisters scattered about the country
What I do for work:
I'm an engineer for a semiconductor company. It's very much like living in a Dilbert cartoon.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
I spent the first 21 years exactly (moved here on my birthday) in Indiana and I've been in Colorado Springs ever since. I visited on a vacation and fell in love with the mountains. I moved here two months later.
When I started running and what got me started:
I started running in 2001 when everyone I knew kept saying "Geez, with those long legs you should be a great runner". I have since proved them wrong.
What does running mean to me:
It's my daily reset button. When I run I'm able to put thing in order mentally. When I don't run, I feel like a vegetable.
Running accomplishments:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
I've ran the triple crown (well, the Ascent portion was just a really long walk for me) and a cozy 15-mile race in Woodland Park.
What I like about trail/mountain running:
It's the closest I come to a heart attack each week.
Favorite running trail and why:
Garden of the Gods is pretty hard to beat for the scenery, but I really haven't been on a bad run yet.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
I've only ran in a couple, but the Ascent wins for being the "all up" race.
Best running experience:
Running with the incline club during a foggy morning in 2002. Just around no-name creek we got above the fog and suddenly we were above the clouds. It looked like an ocean and Pikes Peak was beach front property.
Worst running experience:
First time I tried to run around Waldo Canyon I sprained my ankle when I was starting to come down. I had to limp back on a grapefruit-sized foot and I ran out of water.
Neatest thing found on a run:
I saw what I think was a mountain lion or some other large cat.
Running related bathroom stop story:
Mine are pretty tame, I just marvel at the people who have no shame during a race. They just lean off the edge of the trail.
Running pet peeves:
People who honk when you're running along a street.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I don't think I've ever had people try to guess about me.
Other hobbies and interests:
I like to ride my motorcycle, snowboard, scuba dive, and hike.
Other stuff:
My goal is to always run a little faster than last year, which is never hard considering how slow I was.
