When I started running and what got me started:
Started in 2005 When I started masters work in Rapid City, several other students were runners. We had a department picnic planned at the base of Harney Peak that weekend, which is the highest point in SD. A couple people started talking and decided to run to the top and back (6 miles total). Peer pressure got the best of me and I've been running ever since.
What does running mean to me:
It's my drug.
What I like about trail/mountain running:
The challenge of the hills, the feel of the dirt, the fantastic views that distract you from how much pain you are actually in.
Best running experience:
Mickelson Trail Marathon - Deadwood, SD First marathon. It ruined me forever...I can no longer tolerate road races.
Worst running experience:
Bonking 5 miles downhill from the car with no food or water.
Running pet peeves:
I-Pods..especially in group runs
