Fall 07 Marathon.
"Don't you know that anything is for sale to the man that is willing to pay the price?" -The Count of Monte Cristo
City: Saint Paul State: MN
Favorite Shoe: Asics Cumulus/Salomon Size: 9.5
Age: 40.2 years old
Marital Status: Single.
My dog--Boston Terrier named Mickey. My folks live in Minnesota (Barb and Pete), and my brothers are in the Twin Cities as well (Rob and Kevin).
What I do for work:
Strategic Planner in the Army (I'm a Captain).
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
...too many to name...but I love the Springs. I'll keep trying to come back...
When I started running and what got me started:
Really, in earnest, during my second year in the desert. So that'd be 2005...I had always wanted to run a marathon...so I ran the Colorado Marathon in Fort Collins in May 2006 and I've been running pretty competitively ever since...
What does running mean to me:
Great outlet for my competitive side...I love the training...and time to think/be outside...
1:15 half marathon at the Rock N Roll VA Beach Half in September 2007.
2:46 marathon at HSBC Calgary in July 2008 (6th place overall).
What I like about trail/mountain running:
More variance, better scenery...
Favorite running trail and why:
Along the Mississippi River in Saint Paul...it'll always remind me of home. And, of course, the Stratton Open Space/Preserve, near Cheyenne Canyon, I lived there for awhile and used to run it all the time...
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Uhhhh...haven't really done any of note. The Pikes Peak Marathon is going to be my first real good/important one...
Best running experience:
Pushing for that 1:15 at VA Beach, then running straight into the ocean, on the beach...such a rush...natural excitement...it was great.
Worst running experience:
Running up the wrong trail--Mount Marathon Alaska--and, as what I thought was the way down was uber steep, I sort of fell/slid my way down...
And I was attacked by wild dogs on a run in Iraq. No bites, but that was as scary as it gets.
Neatest thing found on a run:
Wildlife, all kinds.
Running related bathroom stop story:
Nothing cool, I just have to go #1 like pretty much everyone else once in awhile.
Running pet peeves:
Not enough bathrooms at the start of a race...always a problem.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
Well, this is kind of shameless self promotion, but I'm a darn good conversationalist...and it's something I really enjoy...kicking around what's going on in the world...
Other hobbies and interests:
Reading non-fiction, playing with Mickey (my dog), trying new & different ethnic food, traveling (just got back from London, Rome, Jerusalem)...
Well...me passing on advice would be not such a great proposition. So I'll stick to goals: finish the Pike's Peak Marathon respectably in good enough health to compete in the Transrockies Race the week afterwards.
