three daughters, Shanon, Casey and Taryn
What I do for work:
I am a retired reading teacher.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Vermont, but I will never move from here as I love everything this area offers.
When I started running and what got me started:
When I was 65, my friend June invited me to run and try a race. So I did! My first race was the Bolderboulder and the next week I ran my first half marathon. I thought I would expire as my long run up to that point was 4 miles. The 6.2 I ran the previous week perhaps should have counted for my long run however, it was a race so must be disqualified. I loved hiking and riding my bike before I started to run, now I love running the best.
What does running mean to me:
Everything. I am hoping this year I will be injury free.
Nothing much, just half marathons and scattered 5Ks/10K's. I would love to run the ADT marathon but I'm not sure my feet would take the training. So, I will continue to volunteer.
What I like about trail/mountain running:
I love being in the mountains, feeling the wind on my face and and marveling at the beauty surrounding me on runs/hikes. This is the best place in the world and I am delighted I am here.
Favorite running trail and why:
Waldo Canyon. Altho I scare myself (what was that noise) hiking/running alone, I am willing to chance it just to run this canyon.
Best running experience:
My first race as everything was so new to me and that first experience of running in a crowd and passing other runners was unbelievable. Crossing the finish line for the first time captured me and gave me the incentive to run other races.
Worst running experience:
This years Denver half as I ran with a foot injury and running tortured it.
Neatest thing found on a run:
Running related bathroom stop story:
I must say it is awful when you get the waves and the rest stops are locked.
Running pet peeves:
I am terrified of dogs so loose dogs and owners who say their dog is friendly and here it is, charging at me baring its teeth. I sometimes am so frightened I have difficulty breathing.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I grew up in a GM franchise and drag-raced a Z 28. Now that was fun!
Other hobbies and interests:
reading and volunteering for local races especially the PPM
I must say my favorite foods are red lentils and red quinoa. Yum.
