Marital Status: married
Family members:
Nick, my hub, and two terrorists who pretend to be felines
What I do for work:
I work with kids with behavioral/emotional difficulties in a residential setting
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
St Louis and Colorado. I wouldn't wish St Louis on my worst enemy. There's no mountains!
When I started running and what got me started:
Ran in high school cross country team to get in shape to help my softball career and to serve as the team caboose. I started running again after college.
What does running mean to me:
It reminds me that I am strong and capable. After getting meninigitis at age 18 and a long string of hospitalizations and chronic pain, running helped me recover physically and mentally.
Running accomplishments:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
Rome Marathon 2011, Pikes Peak Ascent 2010 and 2011
What I like about trail/mountain running:
It's the ultimate challenge!
Favorite running trail and why:
Coal Creek trail in Louisville. It's right by my house and it is so peaceful with great views at the overlook.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Pikes Peak! I grew up in Colorado Springs and used to love driving to the top. Never in my wildest dreams could I imagine racing up it.
Best running experience:
Pikes Peak 2010: My first experience with Pikes and I met my race day goal with energy to spare. I felt absolutely on top of the world (okay, at least on top of a mountain) at the end.
Worst running experience:
Pikes Peak 2011: I tanked and struggled before even reaching Hydro St. I ended up finishing 3 minutes slower than 2010 despite 12 months of hard training and an expected finish time 45 minutes faster. The agony of defeat!
Neatest thing found on a run:
Confidence and an unfaltering belief in myself. Corny, I know.
Running related bathroom stop story:
We've all been there
Running pet peeves:
When hikers/tourists are rude when I'm trying to pass. One time one lady looked at me on the Longs Peak trail as I ran past her and said, "Well, isn't that ambitious," in a snarky tone. jerks!
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I'm part bionic
Other hobbies and interests:
hiking and climbing 14'ers...and anything else mountain related
Other stuff:
I live pretty far from Manitou, but I do hope to make some runs as I train for revenge on Pikes in 2012. I'd love to meet some of you fellow Pikes runners.
