Keep Running!
City: Colorado Springs State: CO
Favorite Shoe: 1974 Nike Waffle Trainer Size: 9.5
Age: 70.8 years old
Marital Status: Married
Family members:
Wife is Jerri. Daughters Becky and Emily. Son Travis. Granddaughter Ashely. My running partner Kiaya, and a new puppy Lazy Daisy
What I do for work:
Insurance adjuster. You wreck them, I pay for them.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Cedar Mill, Oregon Ashland, Oregon Colorado Springs - I like the weather and the accessibility to trails!
When I started running and what got me started:
I think it was about 1966 when I was about 16. I got blackmailed into running track. The football coach was also the track coach and my math teacher. It was either an F or an A in math.
Running accomplishments:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
Winning the Portland Marathon in 2:15:32 in 1974. Qualified for the Olympic Marathon Trials in '72 and '76 In high school I led Steve Prefontaine for 5 laps of an 8 lap race (2 mile)
What I like about trail/mountain running:
It is a lot easier on the body and its a lot more scenic.
Favorite running trail and why:
Ute Pass Trail - The ups and downs toughen you up! It reminds me of the runs we used to do back in Oregon.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Barr Trail Mountain Race - Because I don't have to run it, I just direct it!
Best running experience:
Winning Portland for the first time in 1973
Worst running experience:
Running a marathon in 1973 in Newburg Oregon. Temp was about 95. In the last 2 miles the run passed a paper mill. Have you ever smelled sulfur? Does that answer that?
Neatest thing found on a run:
$85!!! I saw a $10 which was pretty exciting but when I picked it up it was a roll of money. I reported it to the police but 3 months later they gave it back because no one claimed it.
Running related bathroom stop story:
Back in 95or 96, I was running Elk Park to Barr, then Barr Camp to the Top, I was with the little speedy dude, and we all know his name. Well we have passed Barr Camp, going up he was well ahead of me and as I was getting close to the turn at Bottomless Pit sign, I saw it a little white bottom sticking out of the tress. Yes it was his Speedy Dudes.
Running pet peeves:
Cars that don't yield to runners at cross walks. My solution is to run over the hood. Mountain Bikers that don't yield to runners on trials.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I am family orientated
Other hobbies and interests:
Hiking, camping, hunting
Other stuff:
I am one of the original 2 ICers!
