Mother...Julie, best friend...Art teacher at Air Academy High School.
Brother...Adam, musician...in the band A Novel Form.
Dad... watching from above:)...I thank him for all the athletic bones in my body- sorry mom:)
What I do for work:
Ha! I work at the CRC! No, I'm not in school...Yes, I already graduated from college...No, I'm not looking for another job-I get these questions everyday! I enjoy helping people...getting to know new friends...learning more and more about running- I'm completely content:).
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Born in Austin, TX...but moved here in 1st grade. My parents grew up here...so I feel as though I'm classified as a native! I love Colorado...and have grown to love it even more since I started running!
When I started running and what got me started:
As a high school/college volleyball and basketball player, running was the part I hated about the sports I loved! I started personal training my friend Staci (another CRC'er) and she slowly, but surely worked at convincing me to run with her every so often. Being the competitive person I am...I was annoyed at my lack of endurance, and wanted to get better at this foreign task of running! I started training on a consistent basis in July of '07 and in my first year, ran in 5 races.
What does running mean to me:
A continual challenge...Time for myself, to let my mind wander...A chance to Explore my beautiful surroundings...
Races in my first year...
Moab Canyonlands 1/2- 1:57
Steamboat 1/2- 1:58
Garden 10Mile- 1:35
Barr Trail Mtn Race- 2:40
Women's Distance Festival 5k- 25:35
What I like about trail/mountain running:
It's continually challenging...The amazing smells make me feel extremely connected to the outdoors...I always walk away from the trail feeling deeply blessed to live here.
Favorite running trail and why:
Elk Park- All my senses are heightened when I am running here. I feel lost in my surroundings...and so pulled away from reality and my everyday concerns.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Well, since I've only done one...I guess I have to go with Barr Trail Mountain Race. A great experience...amazing competition...a total test of my own personal endurance...and best of all, downhill at the end! :)
Best running experience:
A run my training partner and I did that was in the middle of nowhere in Glenwood Springs. We started off on the right path, but ended up somewhere totally unexpected. It was the sole feeling of total adventure that made it so memorable.
Worst running experience:
Yikes. I'd have to say doing my first 5k (recently) in my first true year of running. After doing 2 half-marathons, the garden 10 milel, then BTMR...i thought "hey, it's just a 5k...i'll push as hard as I can...the whole time." 7 minutes in I was in pure hell...and felt as though my left calf was going to explode! I guess 5k's are supposed to be horrible?
Neatest thing found on a run:
Any and all dimes that my dad sends me:). He gave me the gift of competitiveness and athleticism, so there isn't one run that I don't think of him. The dimes only are a physical reminder that he is there with me on every run.
Running related bathroom stop story:
First 1/2 marathon in Moab. End of the race, barely. End of story.
Running pet peeves:
Women that run with their hair down...is this a fashion show or something? Common, I know it is annoying. Hum...oh yeah, crappy bras and people that run directly in the middle of trails.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I played Division II college basketball.
Other hobbies and interests:
Anything sports related-playing and watching. Love to bake...things that are sweet and especially bad for me.
Really would love to run my first full Marathon sometime next year. Maybe in Austin- the city I was born in. Who knows...we shall see. At the moment I am so enjoying exploring the local trails and learning how far I can push myself.
