What I do for work:
I'm a funeral director at the Air Force Academy.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Texas, Alaska & Colorado. I love Colorado. So many trails, so little time.
When I started running and what got me started:
I started running a lot more during the 2005 summer season. When I moved to Colorado & started work at USAFA, there were awesome trails to run during my lunch hour which helped to break up stressful days.
What does running mean to me:
When I run, it takes me to another place where it's just me. I don't think about anything but being outside, enjoying the day. There's nothing that compares to being outside on a trail anywhere in Colorado on a beautiful, sunny & cloudless day.
Running accomplishments:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
My first marathon: 2010 PPM - 7:43:36
What I like about trail/mountain running:
I love trail running because of the beauty, peace & quiet. There's nothing like watching the sun rise from the top of the Incline!
Favorite running trail and why:
Barr Trail is my favorite because I love the challenge and there are so many awesome views!
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
It's a toss up between the PPA/PPM and Collegiate Peaks. The views in Buena Vista were stunning throughout the entire course. PPA/PPM will always be close to my heart because it's challenging every time I step on the trail.
Best running experience:
The 2005 Ascent has been my best running experience because I shaved 32 minutes from the previous year's time and felt great! I worked really hard in training and achieved my goal. Victory is sweet!
Worst running experience:
The 2004 Ascent was my worst running experience because I became injured approximately 1 hour into the race and continued until the end.
Neatest thing found on a run:
A herd of elk.
Running related bathroom stop story:
Seeing a female peeing while standing up during the 2004 Ascent. No, it wasn't me.
Running pet peeves:
People that don't use proper etiquette when passing along with people that don't clean up after their dogs.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
Fear of failure.
Other hobbies and interests:
Hike/run with friends, make quilts for family/friends, hanging w/friends on the weekends.
