What I do for work:
I have worked in the IT field for 13 years and am now going back to school to do.... something else.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
I grew up in Colorado Springs. When I was a kid I couldn't wait to get out of town. I joined the Army and was stationed in Germany and Georgia. I was deployed all over the world - Kosovo, Macedonia, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kuwait, etc... I figured out Colorado Springs wasn't so bad after all. Now I'm in Manitou and love it.
When I started running and what got me started:
I ran track in middle school and got pretty good at it. I also ran quite a bit in the Army (not really a choice). I have been thinking about starting up again and seeing the race this weekend I've decided to do it. I'd like to run the Ascent next year and I figured the best training I could get was with ICers.
What does running mean to me:
I love running once I'm in shape. It's the getting in shape that's tough for me. I know I have some pounds to drop before I can get to where I want to be but I know that will come with the running. I have had many moments running (especially on trails) where I got this primal feeling of something just being right. I don't know how to explain it but it just felt like that was exactly what I was supposed to be doing at that time. I haven't had that feeling with anything else and I like to have it again. Plus I like the running crowd. My Dad ran marathons while I was growing up and I just like the crowds you get at races.
Won the "state" mile for a Co Springs city track team when I was 14 with a 5:21 mile.
What I like about trail/mountain running:
Just the feeling you get running through the woods at a good pace. It just feels right.
Favorite running trail and why:
A trail I ran in Vilseck Germany. It was just beautiful.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Don't know yet.
Best running experience:
Running in the woods in Germany by myself.
Worst running experience:
Ran from elk park to the summit a few years back and got altitude sickness. I felt like I was dieing. I was drinking water off of the rocks....
Neatest thing found on a run:
Peace of mind.
Running related bathroom stop story:
Running pet peeves:
Early cold mornings.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I have played in heavy metal bands before.
Other hobbies and interests:
Fly fishing, camping, playing guitar.
Need training advice for the Ascent.
