When I started running and what got me started:
I started running 8 months ago. I got started ask a request from my CEO to promote health and fitness at our hospital. I got hooked from doing the Pikes Peak Challange, then a 5K, then in February did my first half marathon in San Fransisco! Loved it!!! I have a couple more halfs scheduled, Pikes Peak Challenge and several fun races in between.
What does running mean to me:
It means that I am showing my daughter that even though something may be hard and you do and overcome it! I also want her to know that physical fitness is a natural part of life. Running is also my time to feel good about myself and what i am doing and the small accomplishments that I have made in just under a year! She loves to see my medals and show them off to her friends!
Running accomplishments:
"Girls on the run 5K", "San Fransisco 1/2 marathon", Pikes Peak challenge. My "numbers", cholestoral numbers, bmi... have improved by drastic proportions!!
What I like about trail/mountain running:
Beautiful scenery and the feeling of accomplishing personal goals each and every time I go!
Favorite running trail and why:
I have been in Colorado for a little over a year. I really don't have a favorite running trail.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Pikes Peak Challenge for the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado. Why I loved it...... I finished!!!!
Best running experience:
San Fransisco half marathon, ran 8 miles without stopping!!
Worst running experience:
Frozen Frost 5 and 10mile. I finished last. BUT...I finished!!!
Neatest thing found on a run:
Support and encouraging words from other runners!
Running related bathroom stop story:
During the half marathon in San Fransisco I had to stop 3 times during the race because I had the "nervous runs"! Totally not a great time to have that issue!!!
Running pet peeves:
People who look down on me because I am slow. I have reasons, but... I'M Out there DOING IT!!!
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I have benign brain tumors and Addison's disease. I am on two different steroids to maintain my hormones. Thyroid doesn't work either. I am a nurse and I truly love my job and have a very caring heart for my patients and want to be able to provide the best care possible to them. To sum it up... I am very passionate about whatever it is that I do.
Other hobbies and interests:
Hiking, swimming, shooting, rodeos and spending time with my 6 year old daughter!
Other stuff:
I train 1 to two times a week with a trainer at the hospital. I go to the gym at 5 am Monday through Friday. Hiking on the weekends. Need to social aspect of exercising to help keep me motivated. My goal is to run my next half marathon in less than 3 hours and to hike to the top of Pikes Peak in less than 12 hours this year!
