The fun never stops
City: Colorado Springs
Age: 63.1 years old
Marital Status: Married (since 1980)
What I do for work:
Retired. Used to be a geologist/mechanical engineer/safety specialist
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Pittsburgh, Tucson, Albuquerque. Always wanted to get to Colorado; finally made it happen
When I started running and what got me started:
Started in 1979. The woman who is now my wife was a runner and I was not. Had to start running to get her attention.
What does running mean to me:
Nostalgia. Eliminated meniscus in right knee playing too much soccer so quit running to minimize bone on bone impact and am now a power walker. Have completed all my ultras since the transition and have never finished last in a running race as a walker - that means more to me than all my running years.
Not much. A few finishes of longer races - five marathons, one 45K, three 50Ks.
What I like about trail/mountain running:
The surface, the challenge, the surroundings and the trail-running community.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Mt Taylor 50K. First place I proved that power walking was capable of hanging with runners, and an incredibly well-run event.
Best running experience:
Early October run in Sandia Mountains with my wife. First snow of season started during the run, with the flakes falling through the pines and the early morning sun. Dream-like...
Worst running experience:
First time I had to accept that I could not finish a race.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I’m a true “preppy” - boarding school and Ivy League graduate.
