When I started running and what got me started:
Started in the Marines - it was not optional.
What does running mean to me:
Sanity
Running accomplishments:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
Pikes Peak Marathon six times, Ascent four times (including three Doubles). Highland Skies 40 miler (WVA), 2005 - another beautiful and challenging course.
What I like about trail/mountain running:
everything. I've now moved from Virginia to Colorado - mountain running is one of the primary reasons.
Favorite running trail and why:
Barr Trail - Unrelenting agony combined with unsurpassed beauty. It takes you through five climate zones, each different and always changing.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Pikes Peak. If you have to ask why, you haven't run it.
Best running experience:
Pikes Peak about a mile above no name creek, the scent of pine and the (relative) solitude of the forest is overwhelming.
Worst running experience:
Stuck on the summit for four hours after the 2005 ascent. Got ill, slept on the bathroom floor for about an hour. It was an event all unto itself. I consider it the year I did the "Triple".
Running related bathroom stop story:
Not on the run but as noted above, slept on bathroom floor at summit after 05 ascent. Also, 20 years ago I didn't realize I was coming down with an intestinal virus so I started a 5k. Made it to about 1/2 mile to go but had to pull off the course. Went to a bathroom where I... let things go from both ends. Lovely.
Running pet peeves:
Running snobs. There are so few that it always surprises me when I meet one.
Other hobbies and interests:
huh?
