“On our annual friends & family hike in 2002”

Favorite Shoe: Asics Size: 10

Age: 59.8 years old

Marital Status: Married

Family members:
Kaitlyn, born 2/1/01 & Marin born 4/6/04 & wife Kerry (better not put her birth date in here!).

What I do for work:
Commercial Loan Officer

Places I’ve called home and why I like where I am now:
Wimbledon, England (place of birth); Ontario, Canada; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Denver, Colo.; and San Antonio, Texas.

Colorado is home in my heart and I hope to get back there some day to live once again.

When I started running and what got me started:
Started in 1993. I was into cycling and wanted to do a Mountain bike race. One of my buddies said if I ran a 10K with him, he would do the bike race with me. So we trained and did both. The 10K was the Bolder Boulder and I was instantly hooked on running. Already did the cycling, so each year I would raise the bar. Marathons, Duathlons, Triathlons (up to 1/2 Ironman). I've loved every minute of it.

What does running mean to me:
Besides my family, it is a wonderful part of my life. I've had nothing but positive experiences from it (even on bad run days).

Running accomplishments: View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
After my 1st 10K I worked my way up to more challenging races. The Pikes Peak Ascent was my first real distance/challenging race. Worked my way up to triathlons which I did for four years and loved (family and work don't leave enough time to train as I would like - to be competitive. So, running is my 2nd love now - and I can make enough time to train to be competitive.

What I like about trail/mountain running:
Getting away from society, reality, etc. The mountains are an amazing place to give your mind and body a place to breath and find peace.

Favorite running trail and why:
Live in San Antonio, Texas which has nothing like Colorado. But there are a few trails that make due. On one trail run, smack in the middle of no where, there is a family burial ground that was established in 1873. It's amazing to think of what life and the surrounding area would have been like then.

Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
The Pikes Peak Ascent. My first time was in 1993. The mountain has always meant a lot to me.

Best running experience:
Looking down at the trees tops sticking out of the clouds during the 1993 Pikes Peak Ascent. An amazing sight.

Worst running experience:
Pulling out of a 10K due to knee trouble. My only DNF in approx. 130 races.

Neatest thing found on a run:
A family burial ground that was established in 1873. It is in the middle of the forest in the middle of no where. Big marble headstones and all. Neat to think of what life was like back then.

Running related bathroom stop story:
I've never been seen (that I know of), so nothing too interesting here.

Running pet peeves:
Getting a big whiff of a dead animal on a hard/hot run, it's nasty. Also, traffic. That's why it's best to run off road!

Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
Huge Led Zeppelin & Steveie Ray Vaughan fan. Love heavy metal, grunge, etc.

Other hobbies and interests:
Listening to music and learning the history behind the bands, songs, etc. Also, reading. Mostly history and historical fiction (and Stephen King!)

Other stuff:
Favorite book: The Stand by Stephen King and The Mutiny on the Bounty Trilogy. Favorite bands: Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Lyle Lovett. Favorite Movie: Jerimiah Johnson.
