Barry S Fagin
City: Colorado Springs State: CO
Age: 60.3 years old
Marital Status: single
Max and Erica, both recent college grads
What I do for work:
Professor of Computer Science, USAFA.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Oklahoma City, Providence, Berkeley, Hartford (VT), Colorado Springs. Like the outdoors and the rare air!
When I started running and what got me started:
A few years ago (2008 more or less). Wanted improved cardio, enjoyed being outdoors. Started taking it really seriously last year (2011) when I committed to losing weight. 20 lbs and counting!
What does running mean to me:
Investment in quality of life, endorphin rush, short-term pain for long-term gain, source of pride and accomplishment, connection with my son (captain of XC team in high school)
PR for a half-marathon in SLC (Apr 2012), 1:56:30, sub-9:00 splits and broke 2 hours for the first time. Got to love interval training at altitude ...
What I like about trail/mountain running:
Actually, it makes me a little nervous, because at my age and with my vision I worry about falling. But I like the scenery and sense of adventure.
Favorite running trail and why:
Ute Valley Park, because I run it with my dog.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Haven't really done enough to say.
Best running experience:
Salt Lake City Half Marathon, see above.
Worst running experience:
Wiped out at mile 12 on the Salida-Turrett Run Through Time, ouch!
Neatest thing found on a run:
Myself. Oh come on, surely I'm not the first person to say that.
Running related bathroom stop story:
Is this section really necessary? This sends my TMI meter into the red zone.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
jazz pianist, newspaper columnist
Other hobbies and interests:
Oh that's quite enough I think.
