Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
West Chester, PA; Bay Area, CA; Kansas City, MO; Washington, D.C.; Colorado Springs, CO I love Colorado Springs for the weather, people and healthy life-style.
When I started running and what got me started:
I started running in 1970 when I lived next door to the High School track coach. His daughter was a state champion in the 110 yard high hurdles and she would set up her hurdles in the alley next to my house and practice almost every night. I remember the neighbor kids would sit and watch her ever night. So, when I started high school, I was recruited for the high hurdles. The only thing bad about that was I led with my left leg, which meant I was spiked a lot.
What does running mean to me:
I didn't start running distance until I met my wife in 2006. The longest I had run before that was the 400 meters. I remember struggling to complete 2 miles and gradually increasing distance. I was thrilled completing a 10 mile run on my 51st birthday in 2006.

Marine Corps Marathon-1st One! (2010), Rock & Roll Phoenix Marathon (2011), Napa Valley Marathon (2011), Denver Half Marathon (2009), Rock Canyon Half Marathon (2006), Summer Round-up 12K (2007), Pikes Peak Ascent (2007), ADT Half Marathon, Barr Trail Mountain Race (2008)
What I like about trail/mountain running:
There is a great feeling knowing that everyone on the trail or in the race has worked just as hard as you have and they are all there for the same purpose...to finish!
Favorite running trail and why:
Santa Fe Trail. I can go either North or South from the Woodmen trailhead depending on the weather. Usually go South when the winds are blowing.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
I really don't have one yet. I've run the Barr Trail Mountain Race and the Ascent, but I'm sure there are more to run and enjoy.
Best running experience:
It was a corporate challenge event when I was in my 30's in Kansas City, MO. It was under the lights at night, on a track, in a stadium, and wicked heat and humidity. I managed to stay ahead of one of the fastest guys in the city that year in the 400 meters in the 4th leg of a 4X400. I wasn't in that great of shape, but ran a 54 second split to hold him off. Yes, nothing of Olympic standards, but still a great moment for me.
Worst running experience:
Being within the cut-off time for the Barr Trail Mountain Race and crashing-and-burning at mile 11.5 from de-hydration and having to be 'escorted' off the mountain by El Paso County Search and Rescue in 2007.
Neatest thing found on a run:
The love of my life.
Running related bathroom stop story:
Anywhere there is a tree in the forest, there is a story.
Running pet peeves:
Seeing dog owners let there pets crap right in the middle of the trail and not bother to pick it up!
Other hobbies and interests:
Sailing, culinary arts, golf.
I enjoy seeing other people out on the trails during snow storms or bad weather. It gets me totally motivated and into having a good racing season.
