At the 2005 "The Other Half" 1/2 marathon near Moab, UT. Beautiful race! Too bad it was on roads...

City: Tacoma State: WA
Favorite Shoe: Varies Size: 10
Age: 36.9 years old
Marital Status: engaged
Family members:
I live with my fiance Mike, and our new hound dog Mollie. My dad, Mike, my mom, Dani, two sisters Christa and Katelyn, all still live in Colorado.
What I do for work:
Research specialist at Shriner's Hospital for Children
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
I grew up in Green Mtn Falls, CO, did a 2-year stint in Delaware, and 3 years in Calgary, Canada. Lexington is a great city, but definitely NOT a place for trail runners. The Red River Gorge nearby is our only real outdoor opportunity.
When I started running and what got me started:
Started running in high school, just because my twin sister did. I guess my family has always been really active and I didn't catch on until then- I'm glad I did!
What does running mean to me:
Running is near spiritual to me, it's as close as I come to meditation. I love the intensity of it, it helps me clear my head (the endorphins don't hurt, either.)
Running accomplishments:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
I'm usually pretty average, but I occasionally place in my age group. I actually just won my age group in my first race after taking 8 months off for a knee injury (it was only a 5k, though.)
What I like about trail/mountain running:
I love the scenery and being away from cars and crowds of people for a while. I also like the challenge of it- you have to think a little bit more about where your feet are going.
Favorite running trail and why:
Mesa Trail in Boulder- not too steep, but just hilly enough to be interesting. Not to mention the views!
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
BTMR for the fun and the community involvement.
Best running experience:
There are too many- any run I go on that I go a little farther or a little harder than I had before, or when I'm rewarded with a great view or a wildlife sighting, qualifies as a "best" run.
Worst running experience:
I decided to do a kid's fun run when I was 13 or so. When I got there I was head and shoulders over all the other 7 and 8 year old kids, but when we started I was towards the back of the pack. I was so embarassed that I ducked into the bushes halfway through and bushwacked back to the car to hide until my dad came looking for me.
Running related bathroom stop story:
Well, one year at the Boulder Bolder we were passing by all the port-a-potties, and in among the sea of people waiting in line was the guy holding the sign marking the start of the "PP" wave. We got a kick out of it.
Other hobbies and interests:
I ski, and have been getting into rock climbing again with the Red River Gorge so close. I also took up knitting last year and it's been a really nice way to stay creative!
