Pikes Peak Ascent 2007....a view from the top
|
One step at a time... we can all make a difference!!
City: St Louis State: MO
Favorite Shoe: La Sportiva Raptors Size: 10
Age: 40.9 years old
Marital Status: Single...
What I do for work:
Senior Portfolio Manager for ETFs for large Investment Services Company
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Grand Island, Nebraska; West Des Moines, IA; Naperville, IL, St. Louis, MO -- and any location I can go for a run to explore new adventures!
When I started running and what got me started:
I have been running for many years but it was 2006 when I got so-called "hooked" on running. There is something calming about running whether you are going for solo or in groups and no matter where you are (mountains, new cities while traveling), there is no better feeling.
What does running mean to me:
Purpose! Allows me to gain focus and clarity in life along with meeting like-minded people who have the same desires and passion for the outdoors and running as I. Running has opened many doors, the most important is meeting the most wonderful people along the way and it has only fueled the desire to run more and give back.
Running accomplishments:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
In no particular order, but running my first marathon, first 50 miler and running Peak Peak are on top of my list. But I hope my best accomplishments are yet to come. I don't like finish lines, but the races allow me to enjoy the atmosphere of the race, the people, volunteers, etc.
What I like about trail/mountain running:
Trail running allows you to relax and get away from the daily grind of city life! It clears your mind and you just get lost in the wonderful beauty of the trail...There is nothing like running on trails or in the mountains, you forget about everything and can enjoy where you are at that moment
Favorite running trail and why:
Pikes is one of my top.. but my goal is to search for my favorite...that is the fun part of getting more into endurance and trail running.. the qwest to find the ulitmate trail! Let the search continue....
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Of course Pikes Peak ranks up there on the list, but I also enjoyed running the McKenzie trail out in Oregon. There is nothing more humbling and satisfying than trying to do your best running up Pikes Peak. The mountain is always in control and demands your best but it does allow you to be part of the beauty that surrounds it.
Best running experience:
Any time I run - race or training - time and results don't matter. The fact I can go out and enjoy nature and friends is what running is all about.
Neatest thing found on a run:
Friends! - good example is during the 2008 Chicago Marathon, I ran upon someone and they noticed my charity shirt, we ran for 14 miles together.... still friends.... Running is a unique way to meet people..we all share similar values and ideas!
Running pet peeves:
The only pet peeve is not being able to run! No mater where I go, I try to get in a run to explore new places..best way to view a new place is on foot!
Other hobbies and interests:
I enjoy spending time with friends during a nice long run, a nice cup of coffee, and anything outdoors - the mountains, skiing, hiking...
Other stuff:
To continue to enter races to meet people from all over...to travel and experience locations by foot.... to hear stories and learn from others. I am going to continue to run more endurance races - solo and team this year
