Age: 43.2 years old
Marital Status: married
Family members:
Erica and our son Jackson
What I do for work:
I work in advertising and marketing, which has involved making sound effects and music supervising for TV commercials. I am also a drummer/percussionist who has recorded with Beth Orton, Sonic Youth, Wilco, and a bunch of other folks . . .touring has taken me to Europe, Japan, and all over the USA.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
I grew up in Southern California until I was 15, then my family moved to Long Island, NY where I finished highschool- went to college deep in the sticks of Virginia (while family moved back to Cali)- returned to New York, but this time it was NYC (13years), and now I live out in Park Slope, Brooklyn with my wife, Erica and son, Jackson. Park Slope is a great family neighborhood, with an amazing food Co-Op that is member owned, so we all buy great organic foods for real cheap! Near by Prospect Park is really enjoyable, too . . .the trail system offers a good workout, and surrounds you with trees!
When I started running and what got me started:
I have been an athlete most of my life, but didn't really start running like this until 2002. My future is what got me started running. It was time to check-in and make serious adjustments to my lifestyle.
What does running mean to me:
clarity, confidence, and experience.
Running accomplishments:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
Overall 3rd at 2007 Louisville's Lovin' the Hills 50K Overall 11th at 2007 Promise Land 50K Overall 78th at 2006 Pikes Peak Marathon (my first P.P. & first season of racing). Age Group 3rd place at 2006 Teva Paint Mines 6k Top 25% at 2006 Mt. Washington (where the "mental" part of running slapped me!).
What I like about trail/mountain running:
The challenge of the trail and mountain are so rewarding for a variety of senses
Favorite running trail and why:
Harriman State Park, NY . . .all single track roots, rocks, climbs and drops- some scrambles too. Devil's Dyke, Brighton, UK . . . fast and steep, and through a few herds of sheep! Captain Jack's over in Cheyenne Canyon . . . great climbs and wonderful views. Barr Trail . . . from No Name to Barr Camp, I had the mountain to myself- so quiet and breezy.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Nothing that I have experienced has topped my Pikes Peak experience, even though I feel I had a pretty awful race. Lots of races on the horizon for 2007, so we will see.
Best running experience:
Don't know yet. Unless I get hurt or something, I come off of each run with some kind of positive experience.
Worst running experience:
Mt. Washington 2006 . . . the lack of race experience and lack of mental training got the best of me. My body was in much better shape than my head.
Other hobbies and interests:
My biggest interest right now is my 13 month old son, Jackson.
