-40^C is -40^F and both of them are damn cold no matter how many layers you wear!
City: Kelowna State: BC Country: CAN
Favorite Shoe: Hoka One One mult. models Size: 9
Age: 45.9 years old
Marital Status: Married
Family members:
Dr. Brenda Farnquist - aka the wife
What I do for work:
Figuring out how to move people around faster and safer without simply building more roads..... i.e. transportation engineer with Watt Consulting Group.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Calgary, Alberta, Canada Kingston, Ontario, Canada Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, USA Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada
When I started running and what got me started:
During university I converted vast quantities of processed hops and barley into +30 lbs of insulation. So, in 1997 I started running 2-3 miles for fitness.
What does running mean to me:
Fitness, stress relief, solitude, friendships, and accomplishment.
Running accomplishments:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
* R2R2R in Grand Canyon * Thirteen marathons and counting with the fastest being Ottawa in 2009 and the best being the 2001 PPM. * Four iron distance triathlons.
What I like about trail/mountain running:
Variety of terrain, solitude of nature, non-runners think I'm nuts (I really enjoy that)
Favorite running trail and why:
St. John River Valley Trail in Fredericton, New Brunswick. A mix of nature and history without too many hills. And it is home.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
BMTR - Even though it is a highly competitive race (which means I don't place highly), it gives so much back to the community.
Best running experience:
R2R2R - Not my best running day at all but was a fabulous couple of days with running friends and family in an incredible location. I'm glad it all came together.
Worst running experience:
Realizing I had hit the wall at Mile 10 of the 2002 American Discovery Trail Marathon and knowing that I had out-of-town guests waiting at the finish area. I should have DNF'ed but my pride wouldn't let me. I still don't know if that's a good or bad thing.
Neatest thing found on a run:
A wolf. During the Golden Gate Marathon in the Marin Headlands a wolf was lurking around the summit of the second climb. Great motivation to keep running.....fast.
Running related bathroom stop story:
During a marathon, I jumped into the woods and that was exactly when my sister and brother-in-law drove by and therefore missed me. They didn't know what happened until I finished.
Running pet peeves:
Motorbikes on "multi-use" trails. There's nothing natural about making noise and air pollution at 40 mph in the woods.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I love tasting lots of different beers so much so that I've tried over 1000 brands. Maybe that's why I'm so damn slow on Sunday mornings.....
Other hobbies and interests:
Music, sports, beer. hmmmmmm BEER.
Other stuff:
Most importantly, now that I don't live in Colo Spgs, I realize what a fantastic running community there is. Take advantage of running with the Incline Club if you can.
