City: Palmer Lake State: CO

Favorite Shoe: Vasque Size: 9.5

Age: 42.1 years old

Marital Status: Married

Family members:
Husband, John and baby girl, Araina

What I do for work:
A little bit of everything... in August, I will start working part time as a research assistant at UC Denver while I complete my Ph.D.

Places I’ve called home and why I like where I am now:
Pennsylvania, California, and Florida. I LOVE Colorado! I spent most of my life in the east, and my heart was always in the west. I love western history, western culture, the mountains (of course!), the weather, the blue sky... Colorado is heaven on Earth!

When I started running and what got me started:
Off and on since college. At first, I just wanted to get in shape and lose weight. I heard about Leadville (I don't even remember where) and around the same time read Karnazes's Ultra Marathon Man and decided I wanted to get into ultras.

What does running mean to me:
Impossible to put into words. Different things on different levels - everything from it keeps me in shape to it provides me with a deep level of fulfillment.

Running accomplishments:
Louisville Lovin' the Hills
Hopefully Leadville 2008!

What I like about trail/mountain running:
Solitude, scenery, ups and downs, diversity, challenges, easy to get lost in thought

Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Desert RATS 25 miler in Fruita. I love the scenery and the trail is a lot of fun and really challenging. The people are great, too.

Worst running experience:
Laurel Highlands 06

Running pet peeves:
I don't like to run in the cold, and I am not a fan of high winds, either.

Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I recently had a baby. (Personally, I think it's kind of obvious, but when I tell people who don't know, they are shocked.)

Other hobbies and interests:
traveling, climbing CO's 14ers (and eventually the 13ers), the state highpoints, my husband and I collect Hard Rock pilsners (we have to go to the HRCs), reading, hiking, mountaineering, cultural activities

Other stuff:
I ran the Desert RATS 25 miler less than three months after I had my daughter. It was tough... It is more difficult to get back in shape than I anticipated it would be. I find running to be inherently enjoyable, but I am training for Leadville, so there is more of a need to worry about miles logged, frequency of long runs, hill work, etc. More long-term, my goal is to keep running REGULARLY during the colder months. I am generally not much of a club person, but I am hoping this one will keep me accountable. Two of my favorite books are Ultra Marathon Man and No Shortcuts to the Top. Movies - Blood Diamond is awesome. So is Memento. Breakfast at Tiffany's is a classic. Old School makes me laugh every time I watch it like it was the first time. Foods - sushi!! I love seafood. I am not a big meat eater. I am generally very healthy and watch fat and calories, although I do have a weakness for sweet stuff. I stick to the 'healthy' sweet stuff, though--frozen yogurt, fat free gummy kinds of candy...
