What I do for work:
I am a full-time student in the MS Sport Nutrition program @ UCCS.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
I moved to the Springs in 8/2009 after growing up in upstate NY (the country) and then living and working for 14 years in Manhattan. I worked in multimedia/streaming video/TV for TV stations and investment banks. I wanted to change careers and finally found my way west. I grew up in the country, Catskills and Adirondack Mtns. but always wanted to spend time in the western half of the country. We were ready to slow down and find some peace and quiet - which is why we enjoy living in the Springs.
When I started running and what got me started:
I started running track in 1987, 7th grade and cross country in 1987. I lived for cross country and ran for Ithaca College. After college, I tried road racing however, running on roads is a mental challenge for me - i need the varied terrain for my mind. I started in sprint/Olympic triathlons - then took a break and became a bike racer - (road, track, cross) - got burnt out - and starting doing Ironman triathlons in 2006. I found my way to long distance running - but running in Central Park every day didn't do much for my spirit and running.... I lost any basic satisfaction from the sport and it became a chore. Now, I am thrilled to find running in Palmer Park.
Having difficulty adapting to the altitude and dry air.. but survived well in the 2009 Fall Series. Also getting my iron levels up so i can recover easier from my runs. Having a hard time getting my mileage up - need to find some flatter trails.
Have been wanting to run with the Incline Club, but want to get some longer runs under my belt first.
What does running mean to me:
When I was younger I was addicted. It was my identity, however now I am not so obsessed and just trying to find some peace with going slow. I dont have to compete - I want to use running more for meditation. However, being Type A-, I am looking forward to some intensity and races once I am prepared.
I was fast in my younger years.. but since I focused on triathlon the last few years, I have not done many running specific races. Won my age group in Fall series 2009, which I dont think means very much.
Worst running experience:
Marathon of IMLP 2006
Running pet peeves:
Other hobbies and interests:
Sustainability, local food, gardening... holistic medicine
