Love my mountains! Can't live without them!
When I started running and what got me started:
Started running in grad school in 1998 because I got a dog that needed lots of exercise. Got away from it here in Colorado as I was off climbing mountains every weekend. Started again in December 2011 because I wasn't climbing as much and felt like a slug. Good friends got me connected with the running community and a great running group and I'm hooked!
What does running mean to me:
First and foremost -- Good friends. And then there's the amazing accomplishment I feel after running long!
4:11 for my first marathon!! Way beyond my expectations!
What I like about trail/mountain running:
Just getting started. I have climbed over a 100 mountains, but never tried to run up one! (Although I have run down some because the trail seemed so much longer getting back :-) ) So far, I like the varied terrain of the trails over the relentless repetitive motion on a road run.
Favorite running trail and why:
So far, LOVE the Monument trails off Mt Herman Road at Lindberg and Schilling. Great scenery and I haven't run the same way twice!! Besides being able to run to them from home.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Run Rabbit Run 50 miles! My first 50 and I can still recall the adrenaline rush at the finish! RRR will be my firat 100!!
Best running experience:
Reaching mile 23 on my first marathon and realizing that if I wanted I could walk the last 3 and STILL meet my stretch goal!! Then . .beating that by almost 20 minutes!!
Worst running experience:
Tanking in the Space Coast Marathon and being "done" by mile 16 ... Beautiful race; well done race, but I did everything wrong that day.
Neatest thing found on a run:
Running pet peeves:
those dad-gum bicycle bells! Just freaking tell me "on your left!!"
Oh .. and guys that speed up when a girl is coming up on them ,, dang I need that "You've been chicked" shirt!!
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
When I was in high school and earlier, I was considered shy and quiet.
Other hobbies and interests:
mountaineering,reading anything,cross-stitch,napping, volunteering for SAR
