Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
I have lived in Kansas all my life except for four years of college. I like Winfield because this is where God has placed me. It is a nice size town. It is not too small. We have everything we could want without leaving town. It is not too big. It stills feels like Mayberry at times in the 1950's. It really is a good place to raise kids. There are also plenty of running routes with varried landscape.
When I started running and what got me started:
I started running in the winter of 2003. I was a high school football coach that looked the part. I played offensive line in college and weighed 305 at my heaviest. That season of 2002 I had kept eating like I was still playing but, I wasn't working out. I was starting to creep up to the 300 pound mark and was wearing 3XL shirts. I didn't like the way I looked or felt. I had always been the "big guy". So, a friend and I started running. We trained and ran the Oklahoma City Marathon in April of 2003 and have loved running every since.
What does running mean to me:
Running means peace. I like the way I feel at peace with the world around me after I have run. I like the feeling that comes with the running life style. I feel healthier and when my children want to go running with me, it is hard to keep my feet on the ground and out of the clouds.
2003 - Oklahoma City Marathon
2007 - Garden of the Gods 10 Mile
What I like about trail/mountain running:
I love being in the natural God made surroundings. I like the physical challenge that running on trails in the mountains gives you.
Favorite running trail and why:
Camp Horizon, church camp in Arkanas City, KS, has a 10 mile round trip trail. It is as close to running in Colorado as I can get in the Kansas Flatlands.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Garden of the Gods 10 Mile
It is the only trail/mountain race I have run so far.
Best running experience:
Finishing the OKC Marathon and the GOG 10 Mile.
Worst running experience:
running with nagging injuries like inflamed tendons
Neatest thing found on a run:
I was running once on a trail and a bald eagle came about 20 feet from my head.
Running related bathroom stop story:
I was running one morning when we first moved to Winfield and had to excuse myself to a back alley. It was quiet since I usually run at 5:00 AM.
Running pet peeves:
cars or trucks that don't move over to the middle of the road at least a little when they come up on you
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I like to listen to classical music.
Other hobbies and interests:
being a husband and father
being outside with my family, camping, hiking, fishing etc.
Live a simple, the best things in life are free, life style to the fullest that God wants it to be.
