What I do for work:
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Born in St. Ignace Michigan
Did most of my growing up in Negaunee Michigan
Colorado isn't too bad, but it would be better if it got more snow and had a Great Lake or two.
When I started running and what got me started:
Started distance, (By distance I mean more than a few hundred yards) running in 2001.
I wanted to do the Ascent and a guy I work with had done it in 2001 and was going to do it in 2002. The more we talked about it the more I wanted to do it.
What does running mean to me:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
Completed the triple crown in 2002
What I like about trail/mountain running:
Better for my knees then road running and just as important, the time seems to go by faster then running on the road or on a tread mill. Plus, when running by trees it makes me feel like I'm running really fast.
Favorite running trail and why:
I guess Waldo and then through Williams Canyon.
Although for some, this is the "easy" route, it was plenty tough for me. Plus, once you get off the trail and into Williams, you don't have to watch your footing so much, you can just run. As long as you still pay attention enough not to fall into a hole.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Barr Trail Mountain Race
Like this race because the uphill distance is only 1/2 that of the Ascent, plus you have to use both uphill and down hill skills. Organization is outstanding, there are plenty of aid stations and lots of free stuff. Not really sure why, but I also like that last short uphill burst you have to do to finish the race.
Best running experience:
Garden of the Gods 2001 was my first ever road race and I met my goals.
Barr Trail Mountain Race 2001 was just a really good time even though blisters made me wimp out on the bottom 1/2 of the downhill.
Worst running experience:
I came to a Incline Club Sunday run unprepared for the winter elements of Barr Trail once...once.
But in truth, probably the Ascent 2001. My training fell off the last few months before the race and it showed up big time in both my finishing time and the physical state I was in. I've never had leg cramps for 1 1/2 miles before. Hopefully I never will again.
Neatest thing found on a run:
Never found a thing. I must be moving too fast, or more likely, just not paying attention.
Running pet peeves:
The pain that to often comes with it.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
Just to let my parents know, I do like my middle name. However, I rarely let anyone know what it is. To this day even most of my closest friends don't know it.
Other hobbies and interests:
Love mountain biking. I may even buy one of the darn things some day. Skier turned snowboarder 3 years ago and I won't go back.
