City: Colorado Springs State: CO

Favorite Shoe: Brooks ASR Size: 9

Age: 29.2 years old

Marital Status: Single

Family members:
Two dogs and a lovely girlfriend!

What I do for work:
Equipment Engineer for Diamond Wire Material Technologies in Colorado Springs. Parent company is Meyer Burger based out of Switzerland.

Places I’ve called home and why I like where I am now:
I grew up in central Washington State in the midst of the Cascade Mountains. I worked for the Forest Service for 7 summers, hiking around improving trails, building bridges, and even putting out a few fires here and there. You'd be surprised how similar the mountains around Colorado Springs are to those up north. I could never live anywhere that didn't have mountains, which is why I love it here so much!

When I started running and what got me started:
I started running in high school, attempting to be decent at cross country. Track was also one my favorites. They were both more of a hobby and something to do after school. I was never very competitive.

What does running mean to me:
Running is a way to be free. It allows you to focus on absolutely nothing but where your foot is going to land next. It provides me a means of escape!

Running accomplishments: View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
My first half marathon was That Dam Run in Denver in March, 2013. Now I have finished the PPA (2013) and am training for the PPM (2014).

What I like about trail/mountain running:
Being in the mountains. I grew up in the woods and that is where I love to be.

Favorite running trail and why:
Barr Trail or Intemann. The scenery on both is breathtaking.

Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
PPA. It is the only major trail race I have run so far, so I'm a little biased towards it.

Best running experience:
Crossing the finish line of That Dam Run and earning my first half marathon finishers medal.

Worst running experience:
Avoid running in the middle of fruit harvest in Washington State at all costs. Apples, peaches, pears, whatever you can think of inevitably ends up on the ground. This leads to unimaginable amounts of gnats and fruit flies EVERYWHERE. Every sweaty part of your body becomes covered in them. It is the grossest thing.

Neatest thing found on a run:
A silver coin dated 1867. I'm a huge history buff, primarily the Civil War era, so it was certainly a score!

Running related bathroom stop story:
You know when you really have to pee and you think you are well hidden from whomever might see you? Yeah.....it's one of those stories. I have a feeling the majority of runners can relate.

Running pet peeves:
When somebody comes up behind you quickly, tried to pass, trips you up, and not once says "On your left!".

Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I am an avid home brewer. My grandfather had a hop farm in Washington and supplied hops to the R&D divisions of Anheuser Busch. I remember him having 55 gallon barrels of beer fermenting in his barn. My brewing is on a much smaller scale, but nothing tastes better than something you make yourself!

Other hobbies and interests:
I ride motorcycles, both dirt and street. I also love to read, but it's very difficult to find the time to do so.

Other stuff:
Forrest Gump is the best movie ever made.
