What I do for work:
Just arrived to Colorado Springs from NY. I've cooked, taught kids to climb and behave and be good citizens and to ski, all sorts of jobs. I'm an artist - a painter and a potter.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Born in Buffalo, NY, raised 30 miles south in the "ski country" (lots of snow and small hills). Have spent time in Arizona, Utah, and my previous place of residence was in and around Ouray, CO. That was my first experience really living in the mountains at altitude. I like where I am now because I'm living with a good friend, surrounded by great trails for myself and my dog, and I'm quite intrigued by the Manitou Springs water. A beautiful area.
When I started running and what got me started:
Ran around plenty as a kid, ran the 100 and 200 meters in high school, discovered zero-drop, minimal shoes in college and learned that I can run a lot further than 100 meters, and have a lot more fun than before.
What does running mean to me:
It means using my body for something my ancestors did and which I hope my descendants keep on doing. It makes me feel alive; connected to life.
Not much so far. A couple of tough trail 50k's in Pennsylvania, winner of the father/son category at a recent trail 4 miler in NY, finally being able to run in the San Juans after a couple months of definitely sticking to a walk...
What I like about trail/mountain running:
I feel close to the earth and have a great view.
Favorite running trail and why:
La Cloche Sillouette Trail of Killarney, Canada. It's a 45 mile loop in the wilderness and and is simply really bad-ass.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Green Monster of PA. because it's the hardest thing I've done so far. If I can include something I haven't run, well, that'd be Hardrock. One day I will give it a good try. I made it out to multiple points on the course for the 2015 run and was very inspired, most notably when I came around a corner and there was Kilian Jornet and Rickey Gates, peeing in unison.
Best running experience:
every time the air is cool and my dog is happily keeping up behind me
Worst running experience:
My first half-marathon on sustained hills was pretty darn rough.
Neatest thing found on a run:
Running related bathroom stop story:
the last time and only time I will ever eat a spicy baconator (hamburger) 20 minutes before a run. I only wish I could have passed it sooner.
Running pet peeves:
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
Other hobbies and interests:
Climbing, walking, making and eating food, sleeping, I love sleeping,
Imagine running from wild dogs. slow ones who run really far and go fast sometimes.
