Life is a mind game
City: Colorado Springs State: CO Country: us
Favorite Shoe: ASICS Size: 12
Age: 69.7 years old
Marital Status: married
Family members:
Jan, spouse (non-runner)
What I do for work:
Part-time: (1) SQL Server/Access database developer; (2)CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Ann Arbor, Michigan; Newport, Rhode Island; Little Creek, Virginia; San Diego, California; Marlboro, MA; Winthrop, MA; Waltham, MA; Bow, NH; Franklin, MA; Wilmington, DE; Memphis, TN; Colorado Springs (since August '99). The Springs has it all.
When I started running and what got me started:
Started running after I quit smoking on April 3, 1987. It helped me go cold turkey after 25 years of 25 cigarettes a day.
What does running mean to me:
Running is the best means that I've found (in my twilight years) to maintain my physical and emotional well-being
Running accomplishments:
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
Probably the biggest is finishing my first Pikes Peak Marathon in 2001
What I like about trail/mountain running:
It has it all, aesthetically, and the twists and turns, ups and downs force me to be in the now; to be.
Favorite running trail and why:
Garden of the Gods circumference - a series of trails (6.5 miles) that flow along the perimeter of the park. This trail has beauty and beast and a terrific running surface.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Phoenix Rock and Roll Half Marathon. Live music every mile, flat course.
Best running experience:
On December 5, 2005 (25 months after my right hip was replaced), I arose from the dead (running-wise) for the first time. On November 5, 2010 (one year to the day after my left knee was replaced), I arose a second time. On June 21 of 2011 (five days after a successful heart ablation), I arose for a third time. On November 25, 2012 (yesterday), ten weeks after my left hip was replaced, I began another Incline Club season by hiking up the W's. It took me a while, but I couldn't have enjoyed anything more.
Worst running experience:
2007 going up the Barr Trail during the BTMR - I wasn't entered and didn't know it was even going on until I saw those crazy painted highschoolers at the top of the Incline. I couldn't breathe.
Running pet peeves:
Incline users who run down the Barr Trail as fast as they can and have no idea of trail etiquette, e.g. "passing on your left"
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I pick NFL games every week and have been doing so for the last 20 plus years. My winning percentage is 61% (wins/total games)
Other hobbies and interests:
I've been a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)since April of 2011. I speak to the judge/write reports based on the needs and desires of children in foster care. I'm still on my first case.
Other stuff:
credo: I choose the feelings that I experience, (nobody did this to me); I decide the goals that I would achieve, (I didn't have to do it); and everything that happens to me I ask for and receive as I have asked, (there's nobody else to blame).
