Those are my splits on my arm - 2002 PPM
Ya gotta get yer money's worth!
City: Colorado Springs State: CO
Age: 65.4 years old
Marital Status: Married
Wife Jennifer and two grown boys.
What I do for work:
Retired project manager.
Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
Chicago suburbs; Enid, Oklahoma; SanAntonio, Texas; West Germany; Clovis, New Mexico; Dayton, Ohio, South Korea; Colorado Springs, CO. I love Colorado the best for the blue skies, fitness orientation and scenery.
When I started running and what got me started:
Started in earnest in 1987 due to: 1) being overweight, 2) high cholesterol, and 3) family stress.
What does running mean to me:
The freedom to push myself and accomplish goals I never thought I could.
View my Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon results
1st place in Div @ 50 mile Tahoe Rim Trail Ultra in 2003, three Bostons 2000/2004/2006. Nine Pikes Peak Ascents. Two Pikes Peak Marathons (99 and 02) winning a fourth place watch in 02.
What I like about trail/mountain running:
The uphills and downhills! Being out in "the wilds"! And the continual twists and turns!
Favorite running trail and why:
Elk Park to Barr Camp. Also the loop from GoG Balanced Rock-Rampart-Williams-Waldo-Ute.
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
Pikes Peak Marathon -- it's such a good "killer"!
Best running experience:
#1. The 2002 Big Sur Marathon for its scenic beauty, the spectators, and the overall sense of joy I had running it. Not my best time, but the marathon I had the most FUN doing!
#2. The 1999 Chicago Marathon - hometown w/family as spectators.
Worst running experience:
Hate to say this... probably a sin, but my experience at Boston in 2000. Everything was great there except my body! I just pooped out and had a tough time just continuing to run! Redeemed myself there in 2004 and 2006.
Neatest thing found on a run:
Machu Picchu in Peru! Ran the Inca trail in three days, ending up at the "lost" city of the Incas in 2001. (www.andesadventures.com)
Running related bathroom stop story:
Had to stop during the Chicago Marathon to go #1... in an alley just off the course. Not pretty, but quick!
Running pet peeves:
People oblivious to others with unleashed dogs on narrow, curvy trails.
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
#1. I flew fighters in the Air Force.
#2. I was best supporting actor in high school.
Other hobbies and interests:
There's life beyond running??? Oh, well, how's this: REI trips to different places, mountain hiking, astronomy... hey, I always know where north is on a clear night!!
Completed my first ultra - Tahoe Rim Trail 50m 7/19/03. Loved the experience - finished first in my division. For advice, "Do it now while you can!" You won't know how much you can do if you don't push yourself. It's OK to fail trying for a new goal.
