Places Ive called home and why I like where I am now:
California, New York City. I like southern California because of the awesome mountains available to run in. There is no shortage of good trails near my house.
When I started running and what got me started:
I started running in 1995 as a way to lose weight and see how far I could push my body. That subsequently brought me to ultrarunning.
What does running mean to me:
It is freedom and it is challenge.
Running accomplishments:
4th place HURT 100k 2003 8th place San Juan Trails 50k 2005 8th place Mt Dissappointment 50k 2005 7th place HURT 100k 2006 22 ultraraces in all ranging from 50k to 100m
What I like about trail/mountain running:
I like the scenery and the ever changing environment. It is alot like life in that it is good for a while then bad for a while. The champion in running and in life, deals well with the good and the bad.
Favorite running trail and why:
Manona cliff trail which is on Oahu in Hawaii. It is also part of the HURT 100k. It hugs the edge of a vegatation covered cliffside and gives incredible views of the island. Of course you cant look at the views for too long as you might trip!!!
Favorite trail/mountain race and why:
HURT 100k. It is such a hard event yet so pretty and so unique. I have never run in a rainforest before. It is a chance every year to do something really special and ask my body to "step up".
Best running experience:
Fininshing my first HURT in 2003 in 4th place.
Worst running experience:
DNF at HURT in 2005
Neatest thing found on a run:
The ability to be patient.
Running pet peeves:
None
Something non running related that no one would guess about me:
I used to work at Disneyland
Other hobbies and interests:
Playing with our kids and teaching my son to run on trails, gardening, cooking.
Other stuff:
Want to move away from ultrarunning as a priority and into more mountain running.
