Good Evening Incline Club!

We are less than a week away from the PPA/M registration, so now is the time to brush up on your typing skills. :-)

Remember that Daylight “Savings” Time starts this Sunday, so remember to set your clocks ahead one hour.

NEXT RUN: Barr Camp
***********************************************
Sunday, Mar 13, 8:00am — _MDT_ — Memorial Park
Waldo/LRR double! Run the UPT and then head over and do Waldo Canyon — either way. Next, head up LRR and return via the Barr Trail. 3-4 hours, if it would be longer just do Waldo or LRR

Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon Entry
***********************************************
Entry for this year’s Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon is next Wednesday the 16th. Full details are at http://www.pikespeakmarathon.org/entry.htm

Note that as an extra added bonus for the PPA/M vets, the results search page at http://www.skyrunner.com/search/find.asp will now directly link you to the registration pages for the waves and/or fields that you are eligible for.

Just remember to verify that you are signing up for the correct wave/field/race. The entry requirements have changed slightly from the past few years. In particular, only races run in the last 3 years can be used for qualifications. This applies to signing up for the Double as well.

Each year folks with no qualifications or the wrong qualifications sign up for the wrong race, and that can be a very costly mistake. Also remember that if you go the TCR route, you cannot miss any of the races or you will be pulled from the 3rd one. Also, this is not Boston: a 4:15:59 is not the same as a 4:15:00.

Barr Trail Conditions Report:
***********************************************
Last week it was mostly dirt with a few short icy spots on the way to Noname, and then mostly ice and packed snow from Noname to Barr Camp. The section after the gate on Ruxton to the spur trail was still a bit dicey in sections. We got hit by a small snow storm this past week, so what it was and what it is may be slightly different.

Weather Report:
***********************************************
Expect mid to upper 30’s to start and then upper 40’s when you finish. 50% sky cover, so almost anything is possible.

Race Reports:
***********************************************
This week, Mary reports from the windiest race in town, Tony and Donald go south, Wes earns his entry into the ‘A’ Corral while Don goes to the other El Paso and hopes that someday he will know how fast he ran.

Winter Series IV — Black Forest — 02/26/2011
(2)Pueblo Chieftain Spring Runoff — Pueblo — 03/06/2011
That Dam Half Marathon — Cherry Creek Dam — 03/06/2011
El Paso Marathon — El Paso, Tx — 03/06/2011

Winter Series IV — Black Forest — 02/26/2011

Mary Toman reports:
Distance: 20k
Goal: Improve time from last year
Results: Missed it by over 1 min
Website: http://www.pprrun.org/results/2011_results/2011_winter_series_IV_20k.htm

General Summary:
Winding through Black Forest roads. Some pavement, mostly dirt roads. Weather would have been perfect, but that darn wind.

Things Done Right:
Planned ahead for long run, since I had to get on a plane for business trip Sunday morning...how’s that for fighting for my *??

Things Done Wrong:
I let the wind beat me up. I didn’t zoom on the easier sections, knowing I was going to slow down from the pounding wind.

Pueblo Chieftain Spring Runoff — Pueblo — 03/06/2011

Tony Wolusky reports:
Distance: 10 Miles
Goal: 1:40:00
Results: 1:40:17
Website: http://www.chieftain.com/springrunoff/

General Summary:
Cool temps, most of the run was on pavement and sidewalk, though some nice scenery running past the Arkansas River and cliffs above, very pleasant volunteers and always like finishing a race by running into a stadium.

Things Done Right:
Kept a good pace, managed to relax enough to encourage a few other runners.

Things Done Wrong:
Let my mind wander a bit and twisted my knee a smidge misstepping over break in concrete.

Pueblo Chieftain Spring Runoff — Pueblo — 03/06/2011

Donald Hawkins reports:
Distance: 10 miles
Goal: 1:07:30
Results: 1:12:27
Website: http://www.socorunners.org/races/results/SRO_2011_ages.htm

General Summary:
Kind of have to run this one as I am from down here. Third year running it. It starts at Dutch Clark Stadium and runs along the river trail.
Overall happy with my results.

Things Done Right:
Started with my planned pace.
Pushed mymelf harder than normal.

Things Done Wrong:
Wrong shoes.
Didn’t train for it as is the norm for me with these early year races.
Didn’t maintain planned pace.

Any Other Stuff:
They changed the course this year. I think it was probably a little faster than last year although I was almost 3 minutes slower than last year.
Won age group and 11th overall last year, 6th in age and 30th overall this year.

That Dam Half Marathon — Cherry Creek Dam — 03/06/2011

Wes Thurman reports:
Distance: 13.1
Goal: 1:25:59*
Results: 1:25:04
Website: http://www.bkbltd.com/RUNDENVER.htm

General Summary:
It was an out and back course. I went out in 41:35, but shortly after the turnaround I realized I had been running the first half on a subtle downhill with a tailwind.

Things Done Right:
I managed to persevere with a 43:30 return trip to finish below my goal time.

Things Done Wrong:
Getting roped into signing up for the Chicago Marathon. I needed this half marathon time* to qualify for start corral A in Chicago. All of the joints in my lower body told me yesterday, “Let’s stick to the trails.”

Any Other Stuff:
It is always risky running an inaugural race, but this one turned out fine. The race was very organized with plenty of volunteers and a well marked course.

***********************************************
El Paso Marathon — El Paso, Tx — 03/06/2011

Don Solberg reports:
Distance: 26.2
Goal: 3:20:59 BQ
Results: 3:23:00 ???
Website: http://elpasomarathon.org

General Summary:
This was my first marathon last year so wanted to give it another shot. Fairly flat road course run through El Paso,Tx. Warm weather!

Things Done Right:
Fueled well

Things Done Wrong:
Not enough fluid

Any Other Stuff:
They used a new chip timing device and many runners including myself didn’t get times recorded. They are still trying to work it out. Got 3rd in age group. Race was not run well don’t know if i’ll go back next year.
