33rd annual Rescue Run
***********************************************
This Saturday is the 33rd Annual Rescue Run!
Proceeds of this race go to the El Paso County Search & Rescue (EPCSAR). The EPCSAR is an all-volunteer organization that provides search and mountain rescue services in El Paso County. If somebody gets hurt on Pikes Peak or lost on our many trails, EPCSAR is there to help. EPCSAR also provides major support for several of the major trail races in the area, including the Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon.
The race starts at 10am in Palmer Park. See http://www.pprrun.org/events/RescueRun/main.htm for details.

Weather Report:
***********************************************
This Sunday we are expecting the weather to be cold. Maybe 15 at the start, maybe up to 30 by the end.

Suggested Course Overview:
***********************************************
This weeks suggested run is the double!
Take Waldo and on your way back, turn up Longs Ranch Road rather than return along Ute Pass Trail.
WARNING: If it will take you more than 4 hours or so to finish, do not attempt the full route. Shorten it to just Waldo, just Longs Ranch Road or some other variant.

McDowell Mountain Frenzy Fountain Hills, Arizona 12/11/2010
Don Solberg reports:
Distance: 25K
Goal: Under 2hrs
Results: 1:58:36
Website: http://www.aravaiparunning.com/results/2010MMFResults25k.htm
General Summary:
Went to Arizona to watch the Broncos. That didnt go well. Wanted to get some running in some nice weather and low elevation. The race was in McDowell Mountain Park, with rolling hills, single track and rocky. Almost 80 degrees at end of race. They put on a great race.
Things Done Right:
Ran on vacation.
Things Done Wrong:
Not enough water.
Any Other Stuff:
Saw a lady with a 2010 Barr Trail Mountain Race Shirt.

Tucson Marathon Tucson, AZ 12/12/2010
Jennifer Stock reports:
Distance: 26.2
Goal: no faster than 3:45.00
Results: 3:48.44
Website: http://www.tucsonmarathon.com
General Summary:
This is a road race and used to be almost an all downhill course (after the first 3 rolling miles). The course has changed since Greg ran it in 2001. Now it rolls for the first 5 miles, then from 10-13.5, and again for the last 2 miles. Between the rolling hills it is a gentle downhill.
Things Done Right:
Got in a couple of 20s before the race. Greg & I are running the Mt. Mitchell Challenge in February (20 miles up the mountain and 20 miles back down), and wanted to use this race to see how our downill muscles are. Having mentioned this, I need to continue in the next section.
Things Done Wrong:
Did not train enough downhill. This is good to know, since I dont want to destroy myself in February.
Any Other Stuff:
This is not the most scenic, nor is it the fastest race out there. However, it is well run with plenty of aid stations. I also got one of the funniest photos ever, a large group of porta potties were set up next to a sign reading do not enter when flooded".

El Chubbo Grande Fat Ass Fort Collins, CO 12/18/2010
Jon Teisher reports:
Distance: 26.2ish
Goal: Not get lost.
Results: 6:32:47
General Summary:
Race #2 in the new Front Range Fat Ass series. Ran the singletrack through Horsetooth Mountain Park and Lory State Park. Included big climbs up to Horsetooth Rock and Arthur Rock. The guy in charge, Nick Clark (4th overall at Western States last year) just moved here from England and may not have figured out how us Americans measure distance yet, as I thought the course was closer to 28 miles. Also had a 50K and 20 mile course.
Race #3 in the series starts and ends in Old Colorado City on January 15, 2011. Details TBA...
Things Done Right:
Didnt get lost.
Things Done Wrong:
Took too long on top of Horsetooth and Arthur Rock. Awesome views of the Fort up there.
