Good Evening Incline Club!
For those who made it out this past Sunday, you were greeted with some of the best running weather you will ever find in December. Most of us needed shorts and sun glasses. The snow at the top of Longs Ranch Road was not too bad with only minor packed snow and ice on the way down Barr Trail.

NEXT RUN:
***********************************************
Sunday, Dec 14, 8:00AM Memorial Park
Run out the Ute Pass Trail and take a right and head over to do the Waldo Canyon loop in the clockwise direction. Return via the UPT. 2-3 hours, if it would be longer do an out/back.

My dad lost a race one time and I wanted to win one for him...

More Tips for running in cold weather:
***********************************************
Melissa Eichers writes:
Hydration dilemmas in cold weather. Another way to keep your camel back water available during a cold run. Usually just the water in the tube freezes and the water in the bladder is not frozen. If this is the case just always blow the water back into the bladder after every drink to keep the water in the tube from freezing. No water, nothing to freeze. If your mouth piece freezes just keep it in your mouth for 30 sec or so and then retrieve the water.

News & Notes:
***********************************************
For those who didnt know, Matt won the The North Face Endurance Challenge Championship this past weekend, beating Uli Steidl and some of the best of the best when it comes to Trail running. Hopefully we will see a race report from him sometime before August. It should be noted that the Matts residency change to San Francisco was only temporary and that he is now a Manitou resident once again. (See the official results site for that and other oddities). For those who want to know what Matts secret is, look at the photos from last years race and compare them to this years race. Now note the shirt that he is wearing... Coincidence? I think not.
As for the Kyla quote above... During this years Fall Series IV race at Palmer park, Kyla apparently decided that she wanted to run with everybody else. So she ditched Mom and Dad (aka Yvonne and Matt) who were working at the first aid station and joined the rest of the runners. She was stopped at aid station #2 when one of the other runners asked who this kid was and why she was following her. Tim Steffens was one of the aid station volunteers and overheard the reason why she decided to go for a run.

Weather Report:
***********************************************
The current weather report calls for low to mid 20s with 10mph winds and approximately 70% sky cover. There is a slight chance for some precipitation all day Sunday. Gloves and a hat will be in order.

Suggested Course Overview:
***********************************************
This weeks suggested run is Waldo Canyon.
The full course is approximately 15 miles with 3000ft of elevation gain and a high point of 8100ft. For those who are not yet up to that distance, common out and back distances are as follows:
LRR Intersection: 7 miles & 1000ft of gain
Start of the Waldo Loop: 11.5 miles & 2000ft of gain
Bail Trail: Approx 9 miles. (Dont try this unless you are with somebody who knows where they are going)

High Desert 50km Ridgecrest, CA 12/07/2008
Anita Bower reports:
Distance: 50 km
Goal: sub 5 hours
Results: 4:53:43 7th woman, 3rd in my age group.
Website: http://www.othtc.com
General Summary:
This was the first race I did, and run longer than 13 miles since my last 50 miler Oct. 26th, (winning it in 8:12) as I was a bit burned out after running a 100 miler, two 50 mile races and a marathon in October. Still walked and ran, but nothing over 40 miles a week.
Things Done Right:
Was rested, dressed right, found the perfect jog bra for my new additions, and had a great time, and set a PR for the 50km distance. Beat the rain that came in for the slower people.
Things Done Wrong:
Too rested. I could tell my legs hadnt been doing the hills, and I got dehydrated a little, which cost me a few minutes later on.
Comments on Calculator:
Cant do math.
Any Other Stuff:
Hilly, but beautiful desert scenery.
