Howdy ICers,
Reports are coming in from all over on the snow/ice melt. Things are clearing up FAST! Hopefully that means we will be fine this weekend. Never can tell however – be careful!
See you out there for the killer loop:-)

Sunday, March 16, 8:00am Memorial Park
Run out the UPT and take a right and head across Hwy 24 and do the Waldo Canyon loop clockwise. Cross back over Hwy 24 and do Longs Ranch Road taking the J-pipe short-cut back to the Barr Trail. Return to park. 2.75-3.75 hours, if it would be longer do just one of the two. See maps! (http://www.inclineclub.com/maps.htm)

Fred Wright writes (about a story (about his wifes (ICer Sarah) mom)):
The first part of the interview was conducted a couple of years ago. Her run is currently 26, including the first unofficial one.

I was on the Barr Trail Tuesday and was amazed at how free of ice it now is. Even the No Name ice flow was easily passable in regular trail shoes. The lower part of the trail, from the top of the Ws down, is slushy snow with muddy patches, but comfortably negotiable.
One thing, I was up there at midday. At eight a.m. it might be a different story, although by Sunday it will have had four more days of spring temps.
(Matt C adds: As Fred suspected, the Tuesday morning report was a lot different. The runner who did it in the morning fell 4 times in the Ws. However the Friday afternoon report is mostly clear of ice and snow:-)

Today was my first time to venture up Intemann. Wow, what a nice place to
run! Too bad I had to leave for Albuq at 09:00, but I was happy I got a
nice run in with some IC friends.

I will be in Seattle this weekend so I am planning on doing a 10K on Bainbridge Isl on Sunday. Is a 10k long enough to get an R? Please let me know.
Secondly, I ran the Intemann/Section 16 course Saturday afternoon since I had to cut the club run short. What a sloppy mess, I had mud sprayed all over my back and legs! It made for tedious but fun running. I hope the ground was a little more solid on Sunday for the ICers.
(Matt C adds: Any race out of state counts as an R. To count an in state race it has to be a 10K or longer trail race or 10 mile or longer road race. The ground was WAY more solid on Sunday, as in SOLID ICE in sections. Some hated it so much they headed for greener (or at least less icy) pastures. Others, like Tim above, loved it. Different strokes for different folks.)

You might want to pass this along. I stopped in to register for the Ascent and was told by the TCR office they expect the 2nd wave to fill this weekend. The first wave and Marathon wont be far behind. Registering online at www.active.com saves 4-5$ per race in the Triple Crown series.

3/9/03 For a change we got some decent weather and 99 came out to enjoy it. However it is March and the warmer days often mean ice on the trails and today was no exception. Depending on who you talked to you would get different descriptions of todays run. Some thought Intemann Trail was so bad they headed off in other directions mostly the Garden of the Gods. Others who toughed out the first half mile that was in the shade said it was an awesome run. Almost all were happy just to be running. The top 33 on the workout board made it and the Lloyd family set a new club record for most family members at a run with 8 making the run!
