Did you know that in 1978 the Colorado legislature established the spelling of Pikes Peak without the apostrophe? If you spell it Pike’s Peak you are breaking the law! Because I have been so busy finding out such fun-filled Pikes Peak facts I don’t have a lot for this week’s newsletter. However I do want to mention that we are only about a month away from starting up our Thursday runs. This is sorta the “no man’s land” of our training cycle and every year it seems like some start to feel like the races are a long way away so they can “afford” to miss a few workouts. Well trust me, just like that we will all be wishing we had more time. Hang in there and keep chipping away at building your base. Indeed your base is like money in the bank!

Sunday, March 3, 8:00 a.m. — Soda Springs Park
Run out El Paso Blvd and into the GOG. After passing the Balanced Rock turn
left up Rampart Range Road until 100 meters past the Antenna. Turn left and
head down Williams Canyon 1.25 miles. Turn right at post and head up to
Waldo. Turn left at Waldo and head down and return via UPT. 2.5-3.5 hours.
If it would take longer don’t do Waldo and continue on down Williams to the
park!

2/24/02 65 braved the ice that was the result of the last few days of warm
weather. The cold nights turn all that melting into a skating rink. Seems
like I say this every year but No Name Creek was worse than I have ever seen
it. Of course the other side of that coin was that there was no snow until
No Name as well!
